Features:
The concept of passive control units replacing active line preamplifiers has existed for some time. Conventional passive preamplifiers have relied on resistive networks selected with a switch or rotary variable resistors. The fundamental problem with this type of device is substantial mismatches of impedance either at the source or the load, coupled with a perceived loss of dynamics.

The Music First Audio Passive Magnetic Preamplifier overcomes these problems by using a high quality, custom made, hand wound transformer. Only the MF Preamplifier features the largest commercially available 80% nickel Permalloy core transformers, wrapped in a heavy duty Mumetal shielding for protection from external magnetic fields. These highly acclaimed silver wound transformers isolate your components to match impedance, reduce noise, and through superior level handling, provide clean and detailed sound quality.

Though from the front, the Silver version looks the same as the Copper unit, internally is where all the changes have been made. Both the transformers and all associated wiring use pure silver wire instead of copper and the phono connectors are also silver plated. Both versions of the MF Audio Preamplifier feature, and use a transformer-based magnetic volume control. Swiss made ELMA rotary switches are point-to-point hand wired into the custom case using pure silver wiring. Output levels are controlled by multi-stepped transformers, offering vast improvement over all previous methods of resistive attenuation. It also offers two fully balanced inputs; one set of XLR outputs, one set of RCA outputs, plus four RCA inputs, and a 6db gain switch.
